What Is a Mommy Makeover?

Pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding can cause significant changes to your body. This is especially true if you have also experienced massive weight loss through bariatric surgery or other means. A mommy makeover is a customized treatment plan that combines multiple cosmetic surgery procedures to address common concerns women often face following pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding.

Mommy makeover surgery often consists of procedures such as a tummy tuck and cosmetic surgery to address concerns with the breasts.

Our Tijuana plastic surgeon can devise a custom plan to correct your unique concerns and help you achieve the body of your dreams.

Your Customized Mommy Makeover Treatment Plan

Each Woman Is Different

A mommy makeover specifically targets the parts of your body that are most affected by pregnancy. Because each woman responds to pregnancy differently, the specific procedures in a mommy makeover depend on your body and your aesthetic goals. Dr. Castillo treats you with personalized service, explaining procedures in detail and allowing you to be an active participant in your aesthetic treatment.

Importance of the Consult

Because a mommy makeover is a completely customized procedure and targets specific issues that developed in response to your pregnancy, individual consultation is extremely important. Together, we will discuss your aesthetic goals and the potential results of the procedure. Dr. Castillo will help you choose techniques that will have optimal results and restore your pre-pregnancy figure as much as possible.

Affording a Mommy Makeover

Undergoing multiple procedures at once with our plastic surgeon can reduce your overall treatment cost. Undergoing procedures in combination reduces overall treatment time. In addition, we only need to book the surgical center and anesthesiologist once. Generally, we will combine treatments as long as the total surgical treatment time doesn't exceed six hours.

Am I a Candidate for Mommy Makeover Surgery?

First, patients must be in good overall health before a mommy makeover. You may be a good candidate for mommy makeover surgery at our Tijuana practice if you have:

Changes in Breast Size or Shape

Following pregnancy, breastfeeding, or even significant weight loss, women can experience sagging, uneven breasts, or a change in the volume of their breast tissue. Our skilled plastic surgeon can perform breast lifts, breast augmentation, or breast reduction depending on your specific needs.

Abdominal Stretching and Sagging

Following pregnancy or significant weight loss, abdominal skin can become loose and women may experience stretch marks. An abdominoplasty, also known as a tummy tuck, can tighten the skin and tone the stomach area.

Stubborn Areas of Fat

Even with diet and exercise, sometimes fat deposits remain. Using liposuction, our skilled plastic surgeon in Tijuana can remove stubborn areas of fat to contour the body and give you a more toned figure.

When Can I Undergo Mommy Makeover Surgery?

It is best to wait at least one year after having your last child before you undergo any plastic surgery. You must also be done breastfeeding and your breast size must have stabilized before any breast procedures. Patients should be confident that they are done having children, as subsequent pregnancies can un-do your results.

For those who have undergone bariatric surgery, it is suggested that you wait 12 to 18 months after your bariatric surgery to allow your weight and body to stabilize. This will ensure your plastic surgeon can provide you with the best results.

"Dr. Castillo and his staff are amazing. First time getting plastic surgery out of the country. I was nervous and scared. As soon as I walked into his office they made me feel I can trust them. I'm never going to forget Dr. Castillo's big smile. We went over what I wanted, he took time to explain everything and answer all my questions. He is very professional and respectful. He performed a breast lift. I am really happy with my results and with my experience. I definitely recommend to go with Dr. Castillo." Fanny Flores, 5-Star Review

Mommy Makeover Procedures

Even after losing your baby weight, eating a healthy diet, and exercising regularly, you may find that your tummy sags, your breasts have lost their youthful look, or that you have unwanted fat accumulated around your waist. A number of procedures can target the areas most affected by pregnancy, including:

Tummy Tuck

During pregnancy, an increase in weight and fat can cause the skin on your midsection to become stretched, and it may lose elasticity. In addition, the abdominal muscles become separated, resulting in bulging of the tummy.

With a tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, Dr. Castillo will remove excess skin and tighten the abdominal muscles, resulting in a flat and toned tummy. Note that a tummy tuck does not remove all the stretch marks caused by pregnancy, but can address those under the belly button. At our Tijuana, Mexico, practice, we offer the traditional tuck, mini tuck, and extended tuck. The tuck technique that is right for you depends on your unique needs.

The scar is specifically designed to be covered by underwear, and many bikinis can be worn without showing the scar.

Liposuction

Liposuction is most frequently performed in the abdominal area after pregnancy to remove stubborn fat that hasn't responded to diet and exercise. During this procedure, Dr. Castillo makes tiny incisions through which a small cannula can be inserted to suction excess fat out of the area.

Breast Augmentation

Nursing enlarges your breasts, but you may find that they never return to their original size and shape. When breastfeeding ends, the breasts may go back to their initial volume, and sometimes they lose even more volume than their pre-pregnancy size, resulting in an unattractive shape. In these cases, we can place breast implants at our Mexico practice to improve the overall appearance of your breasts. We offer several types of implants, and the procedure offers immediate and dramatic results, restoring the shape, size, and some perkiness to your breasts.

Breast Lift

During breastfeeding, the volume of the breasts increases, in many cases causing the ligaments that hold them to stretch. A breast lift can treat drooping breasts and restore a more youthful appearance. During this procedure, Dr. Castillo will remove excess skin, reshape and tighten breast tissue, and relocate the nipple and areola to a higher position. If needed, the nipple size can also be altered. The breast augmentation procedure is offered separately and in conjunction with breast lifts.

Breast Reduction

Like some women, your breasts may have gotten larger with pregnancy, and they have never returned to their original size. Now your larger breasts produce back and shoulder pain, interfere with your daily activities, and cause self-consciousness. During a breast reduction procedure at our Tijuana, Mexico, practice, Dr. Castillo will remove excess skin and breast tissue, and reposition the nipples and areolas. With better proportioned breasts, you will feel more comfortable and experience the confidence that you knew before your pregnancy.

Other procedures can also be combined during surgery, like a rhinoplasty, though these treatments are unrelated to the mommy makeover.
